Silverware Caddy

A silverware caddy is a product used to store and organise cutlery in your kitchen. It is very useful for kitchens that do not have drawers as it provides somewhere to keep your silverware on the kitchen counter top. Even if you have plenty of drawers, if you have beautiful silverware then it should be on display in a caddy.

Most caddies are quite basic. Made of chromed metal, they are round and split into four compartments for knives, forks, table spoons and tea spoons. They have rubber feet or a rubber pad on the bottom of them to prevent them from scratching your kitchen surfaces. However, it is possible to find a few varieties on this design, including caddies made of crystal. Fresh Finds do a set of three caddies made of lead crystal which are designed to pretty up your dining table. They do not do a tea spoon one, however, so they are not really suitable for everyday use but are something to bring out when holding dinner parties.

There are wooden versions available to buy. Target does a Bamboo Flatware Caddy which has three smaller sections to stand your silverware up in, and a larger section to lay your teaspoons flat. It has a long handle which makes transporting cutlery to the dinner table much easier. Target even do a set of 3 Iron Flatware Caddies if this is what you prefer. They are not as pretty but hardwearing.

A slightly more expensive caddy is sold at Sears and comes complete with cutlery. It is part of their recent range and so has not been on the market very long. It is actually three separate ceramic caddies with a whole in the front of each one in the shape of a knife, fork or spoon. All three sit on a wooden tray which can be easily transported and it has a more decorative appeal than some other caddies. The silverware is dishwasher safe. Pottery Barn does a picnic caddy made of wicker. It’s a great idea if you are a frequent picnicker as it keeps all your cutlery neat and tidy and off the grass! It has a neat handle so you carry it from the car like that or you can easily pass cutlery around the picnic rug.

Quite often the caddies are sold complete with silverware. This is handy if you had intended to buy new silverware as well. It also ensures all your cutlery is matching in the caddy, which is nice. Some caddies even make room for napkins, like the one from US Acrylic. It is made of clear Acrylic so it really makes the most of your lovely silverware by showing it all off.

There are a lot of different styles of cutlery caddies on the market. It is possible to get some very pretty and classy silverware caddies although you do have to hunt around for them. A nice one would make a great wedding gift!
